from BARDO

The stars are in our belly; the Milky Way our umbilicus.

Is it a consolation that the stuff of which we’re made

is star-stuff too?

– That wherever you go you can never fully disappear –

dispersal only: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen.

Tree, rain, coal, glow-worm, horse, gnat, rock.

following the path

My mind in moments leaning back to Calvignac, Lot, this summer – a golden time with much-loved friends, daughter and time out...

Following the path of the ‘eaux dormantes’

What I learn from: these martins skimming food
from the threshold of air and water

the need for thunder to follow rain
then rain, then the uncluttering of light

the way the ash tree and the buddleia
take the space they need from no space or plenty

and thrive anyway. I learn from the evening
fingertipping the river; from the days

or the moments when my heart is free, is wild,
is nothing, is nowhere, is the world.
